It is pretty close to indisputable fact that pandas are the cutest animals in the world. They are of course also the poster boys of our friends over at the WWF, and highly endangered. For that reason these shots of sixteen panda cubs warmed our hearts, and we just had to share them.

The shots were taken at Wolong National Nature Reserve in south west China, and commemorate the first time the cubs had been separated from their mothers and put into the wider reserve.

Lego building projects have of course been springing up all over the place for some time now, but this one is just lovely.

It is of course a model of St Pancras International station in London, and was put together by Warren Elsmore, who is in fact chairman of the Brickish Association – an association of adult Lego enthusiasts.

It contains 60,000 lego bricks and four working clocks and we shudder to think how long it might have taken, but it is stunning all the same.

Renewable energy technologies are of course one of our big areas of interest, but nevertheless we find them slightly frustrating sometimes. For all the continual advancements, it often seems that little is actually put in place. Well the Aussie government are actually going a bit further.

In a pseudo-Big Brother type scheme, they are offering one family the chance to live rent, water and electricity bill-free, with an electric car, in a specially designed eco-house. In return, they have to update the world on their experiences via the media, websites and blogging. The idea is to test-run this kind of house for wider application. As such, applicants should have some experience of online communities, an interest in sustainable living… and a good sense of humour for when it all goes wrong.

The house itself will have:
rooftop solar photovoltaic panels, a 2kWBlueGen fuel cell converting natural gas into electricity, an electric car, OLED TV, state‐of‐the‐art lighting solutions (controlled plasma, CFL, LED). The Newington Smart Home will also be fitted with a HAN, or Home Area Network, such that lighting and household appliances can be remotely controlled by an iPhone. And there is much more besides.
And if we’re honest we don’t know what half of that stuff is. But anyway – the idea of trialling such a house for wider application had us very interested. Watch this space, and we’ll probably be following these guys when the scheme gets started.

There are some things that you assume are just completely functional. So we love finding things like this which just prove you can design anything.
The object in question this time is tissue boxes designed by packaging students of Sylvain Allard, each on a completely different theme but all quite brilliant.
We particularly loved this onion by Emanuel Cohen…

…A more “intimate” approach from Valerie Trepanier…

…And these two children’s boxes from Jean-Maxime Landry and Corinne Pant.

We admit it’s probably pointless; the tissues inside are all the same, but they are still awesome, and we’d much rather have these lying around the house.

So much as this is not a blog about the company and we try not to bore you with agency humdrum, we get excited sometimes.

- Best internal communication of a rebrand (up against Aviva and Reckitt Benckiser)

The awards ceremony is due to be held on 2nd March, and we will of course keep you posted…

We’ve always loved treehouses. They fulfill everything Baby holds dear. They are ecological, usually interestingly designed, and most importantly they try to recapture our inner child.
So when we found this collection over at Treehugger (funnily enough) we had to have it.
The first three are from Baumhaus, and come from collaborations with different designers, of which the “Snake” up the tree has to be our favourite.

And this lot are a just some others we liked. The floating globe is just bizarre, but we want one. The final two are big enough to live in properly, having bedrooms, kitchens and all sorts.

So there you go. Who knew that treehouses could be so diverse? I have the feeling some of these may cost more than a normal house, but if we had the choice, we’d live up there. Climbing down a tree on your way to work every morning would certainly add something to the daily commute…

No, that is not a typo. It is the name of a brilliant new range of cuddly toys by Dreaming Lion LLC.

Duggy and Eflant
The toys are fully organic and importantly are made from the drawing of children. This may make them less than perfect representations of the real animals, but it also gives them a unique inventiveness that we can’t get enough of.

Ceeta and Dinasor
Each one is composed of squiggly lines, bizarre proportions and some decidedly dodgy colouring jobs, but it works. The motto of Aminals, “from their world, for their world”, seems to sum it up perfectly.

Dady and Momey

Bayr, Wayul and Liun

Brilliant infographic (and we do love infographics, after all) on exactly who uses the internet. And for what. Nothing massively surprising here but it’s a nice piece of design all the same.

We are of course established photography fans over here, and have stuck plenty of collections of the stuff up from time to time. We’ve had photos of wildlife, landscapes, tornados and shopping malls
Well this time it’s a collection from photographer Cole Rise, who, in the words of his biog:
can’t tell you how big the universe is, or why we’re really here, but his work sometimes flirts with the idea of knowing.
The meanings of these photos are probably beyond us, but we love them all the same.

Now personally we’ve always been coffee drinkers, but this collection of tea bags might actually force us past the glorious beans and on to a new product. Some of these have been around for ages but we liked the collection.
We particularly loved cigaretteas, which are in fact tea bags but look identical to the real thing.

The tea sticks are also quite excellent since they can be taken around with you easily and also act as a stirrer, and hanger tea (below) is a lovely piece of design, and there are loads more brilliant examples.

Tea bags have always been extremely dull, functional things, so we think any attempt to make them interesting has to be a good thing…
