Following yesterday’s food on rails restaurant, we’ve just come across another piece of genius (over-efficiency) from the ever-resourceful Germans.

Scientists Klaus Sedlbauer and Herbert Sinnesbichler (and no, we didn’t make up the names) have developed a coffee cup which keeps your beverage at the perfect temperature – neither too hot nor too cold. This may sound like one of those I-didn’t-know-what-to-get-you Christmas gift ideas, but we reckon it’s actually got some practical use as well; drinking scalding hot or freezing cold coffee is pretty damn unpleasant.

We don’t want to get into the science of it, but if that’s your bag then it’s all available here. Basically it’s made out of some kind of wax/goo/stuff which is already used in buildings and clothes, and changes form dependent on temperature. What we do like is the suggestion it might be on the market by the end of the year, and there may be other options such as cups which keep cool things cool and icy things icy.
