The Known Universe

This has to be one of the more impressive pieces of visualisation we’ve come across. The American Museum of Natural History has reconstructed the entire universe (as far as we know it) in computer animation. Starting from a shot of the Himalayas, the shot pans out further and further until it reaches a point 13.7billion light years away from earth.

And every single star, planet and quasar is accurately plotted. Now that has to take some doing. Still, it’s very pretty, especially on the way back in, and it does make you feel very small for a while…
