Snoutcups

How about this for a silly piece of design?

Snoutcups play on that thing we all do (yes, even you) with plastic cups when we’re drinking from them. And as silly as this might be, the results are excellent – we especially love the dog nose.

And okay this might all be a bit inane, but the really excellent bit is yet to come. On the maker’s site, it says the following:

As we care about animals we donate an amount from every pig snout cup sold to Pigs in Need, a Dutch organisation who cares about the health of pigs.

This has to be one of the most bizarre methods of charity giving we’ve ever seen. And can you think of a more worthy cause?! We’re pretty sure we can…

Taxi Elephant

Any Londoners out there may well have noticed a number of giant elephants cropping up around the capital, in aid of the charity Elephant Family. Now we love most of them, but this in particular caught our eye.

The taxi elephant is Benjamin Shine‘s contribution to the event. In case you hadn’t guessed, it is inspired by the quintessential black cab, complete with taxi sign and headlamps for eyes. The elephant has a solar panel for power, so the eyes and sign light up periodically throughout the day.

The taxi elephant has in fact become one of the event’s most valuable assets, and has been relocated to the Royal Exchange where it can be kept under guard. It will be auctioned at the end of the month and is expected to fetch around £2 million…

Neglect hits Parliamentary proportions

Action for Children’s Neglect appeal has been up and running for some time but last night saw it really grow in scale, hitting the Houses of Parliament.

This video (starring the brilliant Jess Hynes lending her support to the cause) documents the latest in a series of light projections that Action for Children has been putting on, culminating in this display on the Houses of Parliament – which we think looks pretty amazing. It would certainly have got our attention if we had walked past.

These have in fact been appearing all over the country, such as in Cardiff on Cardiff Castle and the Millennium Stadium…

… and in central Belfast…
