Space hopping through Venice

We found this great stop motion video of two people space hopping through the beautiful streets of Venice. They have edited it so that it looks like they are hovering, rather than bouncing through the street. At one point, it looks like one of them is considering jumping of the street into the water. We were rather disapointed he didn’t!

It must have been quite entertaining to shoot, but we can’t imagine the amount of editing behind it! It put a smile on out face on this grim Monday. And made us want to escape to Venice, space hopper in hand!

The Line Phone

We might appear a bit phone obsessed, as this will be the second post this week about mobile phones, but this is potentially one of the coolest thing we’ve seen this year – there’s probably going to be many more to come. After all, it’s only January.

It’s only at a conceptual stage, and we’re not sure  current technological means would allow such a phone to be produced yet, especially for it to be sold at a somewhat reasonable price. But if it was to be, one day, I guess we could kiss bye bye to the iPhone, because the Line Phone, as it’s called, beats it in terms of design and interactivity. As opposed to any touch-screen phone you’d be able to find on the market today, this one doesn’t restrict the tactile control to the screen: the sides of the phone are also used as controllers, and no buttons involved, and that’s not all. Putting the phones next to each other would allow sharing to be very easy, just slide files from one to another, and… transfer complete!

They can also turn into some sort of a screen to play video games. However, why would you own 6 of these phones so that you can play games or watch a movie? That we don’t really get though. Why not just get a screen?

But the fact is if this phone was to be, it would be a killer.

Watch the video to see what the future might hold for us.

DJ Nick Bertke (aka Pogo)

We had never heard of DJ Nick Bertke (aka Pogo) until today. He is apparently quite a big YouTube sensation with over 20 million upload views!!!

His work is absolutely amazing, and this is why. Like any other DJS, he samples. But he samples a lot, very very short samples from famous movies. His recipe? Sample voices, soundtrack and sound effects (from footsteps to bones breaking). Then re-arrange and mix until happy with the melody, and you’ve got a tune.

But it doesn’t stop here. Pogo has worked for major studios such as Disney Pixar: so he’s also good with video editing, piecing bits together, and editing frames. An ability he uses as part of his creative process. It’s not just the music, but the way he also mixes bits of the movie in synch with the music.

We must admit, said this way, the musical part of it doesn’t sound very appealing. A song made from Terminator 2’s sound effects that is nice on the ear doesn’t seem very likely, but he has proven us wrong.

He has a real talent, and his sound is quite distinctive. The quality of his tunes is also enhanced by the beauty of the video. A highly talented DJ, and we’re going to stalk his YouTube for any additions to the already quite long list of song he has made.

Intel’s viral movie

Intel is going viral with this great video made to promote the new Intel core i5 processor. Its title, The Chase, is pretty self explanatory. Based on action scenes from spy movies, it shows a woman trying to escape what we assume would be 2 gangsters.

But how does it actually relate, and sell the processor? Well, it’s all in the way it’s presented, as it’s not your regular James Bond movie. The story is moved from apps to apps, using each software’s attribute (eg. Google Streetview) as part of the story, to obviously show the benefits and performance of the new product.

It’s very well made, and will definitely make a fair bit of noise, although it hasn’t yet been picked up by many websites/blogs, which we think is quite surprising?!

New Facebook layout is great!

Facebook has once again changed its interface. This was obviously quickly followed by a few moans from unhappy users, but they will eventually get used to it.It is true that as always, the ‘new’ Facebook seems a bit confusing. Buttons have been shuffled, you can see people’s ‘friendships’, photos have invaded every part of the page, etc.

But it also comes with a lot of creative potential thanks to the new feature where 5 pictures are displayed at the top of each profile. We are not going to start a long explanation on what people can now do, just see for yourselves.

We personally love it, and would like to think we could come up with one, but we’re pretty sure it’s not an easy and quick job. Rather the opposite. We would say it requires a lot of time, precision, and patience. And we’re a tad too busy to spare any of them. We’re just going to look out for more and admire the work.

We are thinking this will make its way to online campaigns pretty soon, as it would be a great way to customise pages, and get users to engage more.

Sour are next to try an interactive music video

Arcade Fire interactive online video blew our minds, along with plenty others around the Internet, a few months back, remember?

Well we’re surprised the music industry waited that long to follow their steps. Our guess would be that they set the bar pretty high, and there is little room for mediocrity. Plus, it probably is much more time and money consuming to produce.

But Sour, a Japanese band, gave it a try, and we must say… it’s a pretty good one. There’s little room for disappointment.

They used the same magic formula – pop ups invading the screen and various personal information pulled from the Internet – but pushed it a tad more.

Where Arcade Fire’s video was only based on information supplied by the user and StreetView, this one uses Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google, LinkedIn etc. etc. All based on what can actually be found about you online.

The result is pretty impressive, but also quite scary. Seeing the amount of information we keep on our Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter profiles, and how easily it is to get access to this information using Google, startled us a bit.

It’s one thing to know how information rich the Internet is – and let’s face it, it’s not just news and other bits of information, but also a lot of personal stuff – but it’s another one to see it in action when you’re not really in control of the flow.

Still, we appreciate the effort put in the video, and rather liked it. We’re not too fond of the song though.

Creative costumes and pumpkins for Halloween

Halloween is only a few days away, so time to get creative! Still struggling to find the perfect costume? Looking for pumpkin-carving ideas? Search no more, Neatorama and Urlesque have, respectively, compiled the best Halloween costumes and carved pumpkins. We selected a few that we think are simply amazing! We admire the effort put in every single one. The ideas themselves are very good, but executing them successfully isn’t always a given. These ones just don’t disappoint!

Some serious thinking outside the box!

______________

This calls for wide doorways and high ceilings, or outdoor parties.

______________

Silence of the Lambs, pumpkin style

______________

No wonder Star Wars has always been a theme of choice for Halloween, Darth Vader is such a great villain! But these people have put some serious thinking into their outfits, using their disability/pregnancy as part of their costumes! And the pumpkins are amazingly done. The details of the Death Star has blown our minds. The second one makes Vader’s even more dramatic and scary.

______________

Booze and candy don’t mix well together.

______________

Rather easy to make, but Space Invader is always a winner.

We still can’t believe our eyes! And it will probably turn you into the star of the night! Better get some knee pads though, as it is most likely that someone with this costume would have to spend the night transforming to entertain the crowd.

We couldn’t fit all of them, so to look at some more that are equally amazing, visit Neatorama and Urlesque.

Emily’s story

We are proud to announce that our Emily ad is back on TV. The Action for Children ad, which narrates Emily’s story, originally ran across some key programming this Spring, raising awareness of child neglect. The storyline is the same, but we tweaked the end frame a little, inviting people to text 70099 to get more information on Neglect and how to take action.

The good thing? The text is charged at standard network rate. An easy way to help a good cause without inflating your phone bill. Have a look at the film here, or keep an eye out when watching your favourite programmes on C4. And maybe pick up your phone and spread the word afterwards?

And to find out more about Action for Children, and their neglect appeal, visit their website.

Nike goes vampire

Buffy the Vampire Slayer might have been a hit, but the vampire fever really took off with Twilight and True Blood. Following the success of both franchises, many industries saw the opportunity to make money, and vampire related products started appearing everywhere. And now, advertising is jumping on the craze too.

There’s Nike snowboarding Dunks’ recent video, which we assume is probably a viral. It’s quite shocking, very graphic, and definitely left us a bit disturbed. Not for the light hearted.

There’s also this advert for Sin, a Malaysian fashion line. Their campaign is based on references to fairytales and other fantasy stories. So it was only legitimate that one of them would feature a ‘blood sucker’.

We’re not big fans of either advert. The first one is far too creepy, which is obviously what Nike intended, playing the shock factor. But we’re sure it will do fine in terms of circulation. The second one is pretty boring: the whole vampire-glamorous combo isn’t really a fresh approach, especially now that vampires have infiltrated all industries.

Axa’s amazing hybrid advert for iPhone app’

Smartphone applications are such an easy way to keep in touch with customers, improve service, and of course boost a brand’s popularity! So everyone is hopping on the application bandwagon, even insurance companies.

To launch their Belgian iPhone application, Axa decided not to do things in half and to make full use of the iPhone’s potential: a good way to maximise the impact of the campaign, while targeting the right audience.

The ad is a hybrid: half print, half app’, which is something that we believe hasn’t been done to date.  Right in the middle of the picture is an iPhone-shaped blank space, hiding the cause of what looks like some sort of a commotion. But to find out exactly what happened, one needs to place his/her device and follow the link given, which literally fills up the blank! See for yourself:

We think it is genius and quite exciting, especially for an insurance company!
