Mobile office for the itinerant businessman

We love a bit of quirky design here at Baby, and this mobile office from Tim Vinke certainly fulfils that brief…

Vinke has managed to turn a whole office—and this includes desk, chairs, shelves and bin—into a very playful item. On top of that, we all know how painful and time consuming moving offices can be, and this seems to simplify the whole business.

Once all fitted together, this really doesn’t take up much space, and with the wheels and handles, carrying the whole thing turns into a piece of cake. What we don’t like though is the polystyrene. It might be light, but pretty much unrecyclable at the moment. Plus we doubt it is that comfortable, but it does tend to make funny squeaky noises…

And we don’t really see how this could be truly useful: who would need to walk around with their whole office in their hands? But we must admit, the concept is still pretty cool, and if Tim Vinke comes up with a recyclable version, we will be ordering them by the dozen…

Chocolate Phone

As far as mobile technology is concerned, the iPhone is almost certainly top of the tree from a design perspective, and it seems likely to stay that way. Or so we thought before finding this phone, which looks like a melting bar of chocolate.

So it’s got an 8 megapixel camera, a digital TV tuner and tons of other features, but that’s not really the point – it just looks cool. Even the wallpaper, homescreen and menus are chocolate themed, and it comes with all sorts of cupcake and macaroon-shaped accessories.

And the downside? It’s only available in Japan, which is a little inconvenient. And if you got hungry, it might just look like a good idea to eat it.

Unicycling clown

So we’ve all held conversations on our mobiles whilst we were driving, working, socialising… and promised that we could still concentrate on what we were doing.  If a clown on a unicycle had gone past us, we would have noticed.

Clown on a unicycle tests mobile phone users

Apparently not. Researchers at a US university found that 3 out of 4 people completely failed to notice a fully bedecked clown (we’re talking comedy-sized shoes, red nose and purple and yellow jumpsuit) riding a unicycle straight past them. We’d all love to think we’re different, but quite possibly not. Sometimes you do have to wonder who gets paid to research this stuff however. Why not redirect the funds to cancer research or carbon replacement?!

Mobile Treehouse

This amazing mobile treehouse was recently sold on E-Bay for around Aus$12,000.

It was created by Forestry Tasmania with its original use being to promote tourism – the mobile nature of their information center being crucial to it’s success in this role. It is a pretty grotty inside but the external view is just stunning. We can think of millions of uses for this astonishing structure from a private library, guest bedroom and even the best children’s den ever.
